Forrest Gump Movie Review Essay Often, hardships such as war, separation from the ones you love, terrorism, and bullying can bring your self esteem, motivation, and even personality down to a lower level. It can be difficult to stay strong and keep progressing with the many misfortunes that can occur. Likewise, Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump shows how the protagonist, Forrest Gump, deals with and reacts to all the adversity that happens in the society and in his family and friends as well. Forrest Gump is set in the 1950s-1980s in Forrest’s hometown, Greenbow, Alabama. Forrest Gump was a simple man who had an I.Q. of 75. He was always bullied by kids because he wore braces on his legs and was considered dumb. Fortunately, he was able to†¦show more content†¦Instead, the tone of that part of the movie is more of an adventurous tone rather than a grave tone. In fact, the movie points out the beautiful features of Vietnam like its landscape and vegetation. War, as we all know, is very hectic and includes a lot of bloodshed, but Forrest Gump does not manage to show the hard reality of being at war. â€Å"The movie supports its optimistic agenda by evading or overlooking many hard realities of the historical period it supposedly wants to explore and understand. The result is a winning but ultimately dishonest portrait† (csmonitor.com par. 2). Aside from that, the movie includes many cutting-edge special effects. For example, the movie takes Forrest Gump all around recent American history. With the help of special effects, Forrest was able to stand next to the schoolhouse door with George Wallace, teach Elvis a dance move, which soon became famous, visit the White House several times, go on the Dick Cavett show with the talented John Lennon, and address a Vietnam-era peace rally on the Mall in Washington. These special effects are a huge part of the plot of the story because it shows how Forrest affected American history so much. If it wa sn’t for the realistic special effects, the movie would have an entirely different story. Einhard, in his account of Charlemagne, and Ibn Battuta, in his account of Mansa Sulaiman, give witness to the way these two kings ruled their lands and provide an insight on how culture has an effect on people’s views of their leaders. Although each one lived in different cultures, each ruler embodied similar characteristics, such as the influence of religion on their realms. However, there are several distinct differences as well, and each narrative contains cultural bias that cannot be ignored. Overall, each account thoroughly analyzes each ruler and infuses their observations with the culture of the time, which is integral in order to gain an accurate depiction of who these men were. Like Charlemagne, the sultan was involved with religious ceremonies. Since he lived in a p lace governed by Sharia Law, there was no separation of Church and State. Thus, unlike in Einhard, there was an established religious hierarchy in this realm. Mansa Sulaiman participated in religious festivals and services, such as the Feast of Sacrifices and the Feast of Fast-breaking. In his domain, strict observance of times of prayer and memorization of the Quran were a top priority. Children who appeared to be falling short of learning the Quran by heart had fetters made for them, and people must come early to pray at the mosque or they will not be able to find a spot because of the multitude that will be gathered there. However, Ibn Battuta witnessed some characteristics that he perceived as unbecoming of a Muslim ruler. For instance, he was uncharitable, even to the point that his subjects became angry about his miserliness. Ibn Battuta was personally affected by this quality when he arrived in the sultan’s city, and received no hospitality from the sultan, save a small amount of food. There were also aspects of paganism that survived from the culture preceding Islam in this country. The Debate Over the Constitutionality of the Affordable...

Essay 3 The question of whether or not Congress has the power to force people to buy health insurance has been highly advocated by the supporters, and highly scrutinized by the opposition. The constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has thus been defended on both sides. Advocates argues why it is constitutional by providing reason and benefits of the Act, and the opposition argues why it is not constitutional by providing reason, and stating the drawbacks of the Act. The debate about the Constitutionality of the Act boils down to whether has Congress violated its powers as outlined in Article I of the Constitution. Article I gives three main powers to Congress, and those were restated by the Supreme Court in Perez v. United States. Firstly, Congress can regulate the channels of interstate commerce. Secondly, Congress has the authority to regulate and protect the instrumentalities of interstate commerce and persons or things in interstate comme rce. Thirdly, Congress has the power to regulate activities that substantially affect interstate commerce. I plan to give a brief summary of this relationship and the intimacy involved init. There are many possible reasons why some people are attracted to eachother and form relationships. Some of these reasons are personality, physicallooks, intellectual stimulation, things in common, and differences. My sisterand I developed our relationship differently than the way you would with someonewho you just randomly meet on the street. We shared common parents, household,schedules, and heritage. Therefore, we were naturally inclined to develop somesort of relationship and intimacy. If we hadnt, our living conditions wouldhave become understandably tenuous. The development of relationships andintimacy has some very definitive steps. The first step is initiating which ismaking contact with the other person and showing that you are the kind of personworth talking to. Our relationship was initiated as soon as I was brought intothis world and facilitated by the fact that we were brother and sister. Thenext step is experimenting which is deciding whether we want to pursue arelations hip further by using small talk and the like. Since I was unable totalk at the time, my sister and I dismissed this step. Next comes the step ofintensifying when the expression of feelings become more common. This camequite naturally to the two of us. People were always asking my sister to showhow much she loved me which often led to hugs, kisses, hand holding, and othercommon expressions of love people often demonstrate in a sibling relationship. The next step is integrating which is when we give up characteristics of our oldselves and become different people. This has not happened to me because thisrelationship has always been with me. My sister was not always a sister anddefinitely changed when I became her brother. Next is the differentiating stage where the parties separatesomewhat. We are always going through this at this point in our relationship. Again, this seems to come and go in our relationship. The stagnating stage is when the relationship becomes overly familiar and losesthe feeling. We have not hit this. We can always find a new way to keep therelationship exciting. Avoiding is the stage in which the parties createdistance between one another. We have not reached this stage either. We arestill as close as we have ever been, if not closer. The final stage isterminating which is when the relationship is declared over. This has not beenreached in my relationship. These stages do not have to be in this ordernecessarily and some can be skipped altogether. My sister and I developed ourrelationship out of necessity. Brothers and sisters often do this because theyshare so much in common. Our relationship is sometimes good and sometimes bad,but it is always solid. It could stand to be a little more positive on bothsides at some points. We share an intellectual and emotional intimacy that mostsiblings do. The commonality between the two of us facilitates this. Relationaldevelopment and maintenance have some very distinct characteristics. First, notall relationships move through all ten steps. This has definitely been the casein my relationship.
